The algorithm iterates chronologically from start to finish. For each calendar day, it checks date.getDay(); if the value is 0 (Sunday) or 6 (Saturday), it increments the weekend counter and skips the day. Otherwise, it increments the net working day count.

In financial commerce, interbank transactions flow through the Federal Reserve’s Automated Clearing House (ACH) and Fedwire systems. Because the Federal Reserve banks close on Saturdays, Sundays, and 11 official federal holidays, electronic fund transfers literally do not process on those days.

Rule 6 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure stipulates that when calculating legal response deadlines measured in days, if the final day falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline automatically extends to the end of the next business day.
